Colonel Carl Lewis Sharpe, 96, passed away Thursday, June 23rd, 2016 at Beacon Place Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, June 25, 2016 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel followed by interment at Lakeview Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Colonel Sharpe was born August 26, 1919 in Chatham County, Virginia. He was a retired Colonel of 30 years of the United States Army Air Corp/ Air Force serving during World War II. He received 4 Air Force Commendation Medals and 1 Legion of Merit Award during his service. After retirement, he obtained his B.A. degree from Jefferson College and was valedictorian of his class at age 60. He was an avid quail hunter and loved time spent training his English setters, a passion dear to his heart which he shared with his four sons.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rita Miller Sharpe; parents, Mary Lewis & Charles Sharpe; siblings, Charles Jr., Richard, Mary-Frances, Doris, & Eugene; and his son, Larry Sharpe.
He is survived by his brother, Leslie Sharpe; sons, Terry (Joyce) Sharpe, Ron (Shirley) Sharpe, and Scott (Rita) Sharpe; grandchildren, Leslie (Ryan) McDonald, Lyndsey (Ian) McPherson, Lauren Sharpe, Mindy (Joey) Roger, Sydney Sharpe, Spencer Sharpe, and Macey Sharpe; and great-grandchildren, Mason McDonald and Chandler Roger.
