Charles Douglas “Lucky” Jones, 79 passed on November 10, 2024, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Surrounded by his loving family in his final days, he told them he was happy.Lucky was born March 16, 1945, in Sumter, South Carolina to Gordia Ruth Lowdermilk Jones and Charles Gilbert Jones. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a mechanic during the Vietnam War.
He was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, fishing, and caring for the wildlife on his property. His sense of humor was sharp and he was a skilled craftsman with the ability to engineer any contraption he imagined.
He is survived by his children, Michael Jones Sr. (Candace) and Melissa Burroughs. He was “Granddaddy with the Big Truck” to Charlie Jones (Emily), Megan Burroughs, Sarah Jones (Michael), Michael Jones (Lauren), and Jackson Burroughs. He was the proud great-grandfather to Greyson Jones. He is also survived by his sister Terry Lynn Thompson (Bill), nephew Chuck Thompson, niece Amy Kearns (Tim) and great niece Teri Brooks McGarity (Sean).
The family would like to extend its deepest appreciation to the many staff at Clapps Nursing Facility, Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, and Beacon Place for their excellent care of Lucky.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 West Gate City Blvd.,Greensboro, NC 27407 immediately followed by visitation at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel .
Memorial contributions can be made to AuthoraCare in Greensboro or to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina in aid of hurricane relief efforts.
