Bennie was born in Concord, North Carolina in July 24, 1931. She moved to Greensboro to attend UNC Women’s College – now UNC-G. Shortly thereafter she met and married Arthur Hendrix and proceeded to raise three children.
Bennie and Arthur opened their home to an extended family and friends. Whether for holidays or social gatherings, the Hendrix home was a focal point of fun and celebration.
Travel was an integral part of Bennie’s life. She and Arthur were frequent world travelers with memorable trips to Europe, Asia, Africa and the western United States. An avid snow skier, Bennie had a particular fondness for the Rocky Mountains ski slopes.
For many years, Bennie was an active member of the Greensboro tennis community. Her competitive nature extended beyond the ski slopes and tennis court to the game of bridge in which she excelled attaining a Masters level designation.
Bennie delayed her professional life to raise her family but later in life embarked on a successful and satisfying career in residential real estate as a realtor.
After Arthur’s death in 2004, Bennie married George “Jace” Ralls. Due to their shared sense of adventure, Bennie and Jace travelled extensively. Trips to the Holy Land and theme-oriented ocean cruises were enjoyed with many friends.
Above all, Bennie’s greatest joy was being an active participant in the lives of her grandchildren. She experienced a great measure of joy taking her grandchildren on ski trips to Colorado. No matter the endeavor – sports, academics, dance, theater – the grandchildren knew their greatest supporter was the grandmother.
