Sammy Homer Gregg, 86, died Tuesday at his home. He was a Christian. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend and neighbor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was happiest tending a garden, and giving the produce away to friends and neighbors, and helping Marie can vegetables. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman as long as his health allowed, and loved fishing trips with his grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, most of his active duty being in Germany. He spent most of his life as a tree-trimmer-surgeon. After his health started failing, he was employed by the Town of Greeneville. He retired in 1984.
He is survived by his wife Marie Neas Gregg, his childhood sweetheart and wife of 62 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Sherri Gregg of Chuckey, one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Jeffrey Bernard of Greeneville: two grand- daughters, Jacqui Dingus and husband, Michael; Cali Bernard, of Greeneville. One grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Joshua and Joleen Baker of Arkansas, four great grandchildren, Lilly Gregg, Juju, Jimmy, and J.J. Baker . One brother Pete ( Mardelle) Gregg of Gray. Brothers-in-law, and sisters-in –law, Eli and Geneva McGraw of Afton, Buford Davis. Several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late George and Mildred Gregg of Greene County, and was preceded in death by infant twin sons; five sisters; and one brother.
The family will have a memorial visitation from 5-7pm at Kiser Rose Hill Funeral Home Friday, April 22, 2022
