Rufus was a well-respected man, an adored father and grandfather, and a loving husband. He passed away in the presence of his family on his 91st birthday. Rufus was retired from Magnavox, served in the Korean War and was retired from the Air Force. Although many of us would consider that an immense accomplishment, Rufus saw his family as his greatest achievement. He was married to the love of his life, who made up in the qualities he lacked, which was little to none. He attended Campground Church of God.
Survivors include his wife: Alice LaFollette of 61 years along with their children and spouses: Doug and Marcie LaFollette, Katina and Tim Taylor; grandchildren: Daniel Blevins, Lindsey and Tyler Thompson, Garren and Michala Taylor, and great grandchild: Dutton Thompson. Special friends include the church family of Campground COG.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Grover and Lula LaFollette; six brothers: Lawrence, Clark, William, James, Woodrow, Charles, and an infant; two sisters: Irene Wilhoit and Ann Shipley.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include: Daniel Blevins, Tyler Thompson, Garren Taylor, Terry Wilhoit, Matthew Luttrell, Joe LaFollette, TJ Shipley, Braxden Crum, Phillip Ottinger, Gene Lamb, Franklin Weems, and Robert Crum.
At Rufus’s request, there will be a graveside service with Pastor Stephen Aiken and Pastor Larrie Pike officiating at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Campground COG, 2570 Asheville Hwy., Greeneville, TN 37743.
Greeneville Greene County Honor Guard and TN National Guard Honor Team will conduct a military graveside service.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 1:30 pm on Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family expresses a special thanks to the staff of the CLC of the VA Mountain Home.
Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
