Mary Elizabeth Lunghofer Russell Newman, born February 6, 1926 in Hot Springs, North Carolina, departed this life for her eternal home February 6, 2017 on her 91st birthday. She most recently resided in Florida where she passed away with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Effie Lunghofer; sister, Billie Jean Gregory; husband and father of her three children, James K. Russell; and husband of 43 years, Ted Newman.
She is survived by daughter, Kathy Smith Daughtry and son-in law Pete Daughtry of Loudon, TN; son, David Russell of Maryville; son, Phil Russell of Sevierville; grandsons, Adam Powell and Ryan Daughtry of Knoxville; granddaughters, Amanda Jensen of Sevierville and Amber Stanford of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Josephine Lunghofer of Greeneville; brother-in-law, Albert Lee Gregory of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews: Gypsy and Richard Robinson, Kenneth and Donita Lunghofer and Jennie Lunghofer of Greeneville, TN.
Mary attended Berea College and retired from federal civilian service as a loan officer for Housing Urban Development. She was a pre-school Bible study teacher, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and first-place scrapbook winner for Mount Vista Garden Club for many years.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 with the service following. Kiser-Rose Hill is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Pete Daughtry, Adam Powell, Ryan Daughtry, Kenneth Lunghofer, Richard Robinson, and Billy Hurst.
Memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or to First Baptist Church of Tellico Village.
