Karen Hartman Wagner, 67, of the Mt. Pleasant Community, passed away at her home on December 5, 2016. Karen was a loving, caring, and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, cousin, sister-in-law and friend. Her greatest joy in life was her granddaughter, Sarah Grace. She was thrilled to be able to watch Sarah as a majorette in the Greeneville High Band.
Karen was a long-time member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and attended as long as her health permitted. She had served many roles in the church and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Women. Her faith in God gave her strength as she professed several times from the back pew of the church.
Mrs. Wagner retired as Chief Deputy Clerk in the Greene County Clerk’s Office after 42 years of service. It was there she met and helped many people in Greeneville and Greene County.
Attending University of Tennessee football games was a favorite family activity. Mrs. Wagner participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life as long as her health permitted.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Donna and William Grubb; one granddaughter, Sarah Grace Grubb; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Tommy and Sue Wagner, Nancy Wagner, and Dave and Freida Wright; nephews and spouses: Brian and Tonya Wagner, Jim and Bethany Wagner, Jared Wagner, and Tanner Wagner; great nephews and great nieces: McKenzie, Chase, Matthew, Sonya, and Kiley Wagner; special cousins: Anne Frye, Mary Haliburton, Lennis Hartman, Brenda Haun, and Vicki Hartman; and special friends of Mt. Pleasant Church and Hazel Meredith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Wagner, in 2009. Together, they were devoted parents and grandparents and displayed unconditional love with kind hearts and gentle spirits. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Doris Hartman, and a sister, Katherine Hartman Lane.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude for all the support Karen was given over the years during her battles with cancer. Appreciation is given to Dr. Dharmen Patel and staff, Dr. John Boys and staff, Dr. Charles Montgomery and staff, and the nurses, CNA’s, volunteers, and staff of Caris Healthcare.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Gail Jenkins and Rev. Danny Hensley officiating. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie in state.
Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Grubb, Brian, Jim, Jared, Tanner, Chase, and Matthew Wagner, Yancy Harrison, Brent Potter, and Clint Ricker.
Honorary pallbearers are the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church family and members of the Mt. Pleasant UMW.
