Mr. John R. “Buck” Jones of Greeneville passed away peacefully Sunday morning at his home. Mr. Jones passed away on Grandparents’ Day, very fitting as he was a wonderful, loving, caring Granddaddy Buck to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a great daddy, family man and friend to many.
Mr. Jones retired from Teamsters Union in 1992. His first truck driving job was at The Flower Shoppe and he ended his career with Humboldt Express.
Mr. Jones was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School Class, the Echo Group and the Doers Group.
Mr. Jones enjoyed retirement. He was an outside man, grew up farming, and to this day still had a garden. He and his late wife loved the South Greene Lady Rebels basketball team. They were in their seats for the Girls State Tournament for many years. They continued to follow several of their Lady Rebels to watch them play college basketball. Mr. Jones was a big baseball fan (Braves) and enjoyed having season tickets for the Greeneville Astros games from their start.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Renner Jones; his parents, Maulty and Ruth Jones; brother: Jack Jones and Don Jones; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Walter and Marie Harmon; sister-in-law: Anna Jones; brother-in-law: Glenn Renner; nephews: Randy Brown and Howard Jones; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors left to cherish his memories are his son and wife: Charles and Susie Jones; their sons and families: Eben and Melissa Jones, Makensie, CeJ, Hadley, and Julie; Frank and Michelle Jones, Kelsey, Taylor, and Riley Carolyn; Rustin and Casey Jones, all of Greeneville; and daughter and husband, Carolyn and Alan Eldridge, their son and family, Lance and Melissa Eldridge and Marli of Kingston, Tenn. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Madge and Ben Essary; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Catherine and Bob Brown; sister-in-law, Robbie Jones; and sister-in-law, Gladys Renner; nieces and nephews and spouses: Taisa and Steve Novak, Tanya Essary, Tracy and Mickey Jones, Martin and Louise Jones, Craig and Jean Jones, Steve and Glennis Burns, Nathan Jones, Glenna and Butch Hicks, Joan and Albert Romanowski, Bobby and Mitzi Brown, and many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends including special friends: Mike, Julie, Heath, and Rachel Crum; Glennon, Jan and Melisa Brown; his walking buddy, Wade Harrison; and special “little girl” Tammy Knapp.
The viewing and receiving of friends will be Tuesday, September from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2pm Wednesday, September 10 in the funeral home chapel with The Reverend Stuart Albee, The Reverend Christi Taylor, and nephew, The Reverend Martin Jones officiating. Burial will follow at River Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eben Jones, Frank Jones, Lance Eldridge, Rustin Jones, CeJ Jones, Steve Burns, Craig Jones, Tracy Jones, Nathan Jones, Steve Novak, Butch Hicks, Albert Romanowski, Bobby Brown, Mike Crum, and Wade Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Crusaders Class of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Memorials can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, the Trinity United Methodist Church Elevator Fund, or to Holston United Methodist Home.
