He was employed by the Greeneville Sun for 72 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Officer; his parents, Amos and Rose Officer; four brothers: Jack Officer, Wallace Officer, C.L. Officer and Doyle Officer.

Survivors include: five children: Michael (Debbie) Officer of Greeneville; Terry Officer of Greeneville; Kim (Patricia) Officer of Nashville; Cheri (Steve) Southerland of Morristown; Julia (Bryan) Bolton of Greeneville; grandchildren: Mattea McCann, Paul Officer, Alex Officer, Tyler Officer, Mara Officer; great grandchildren: Mia, Maddox and Sadie McCann, and Cole Officer.

The family will receive friends 12:00-1:30 pm on Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm Thursday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens, officiated by Rev. Andy Blackwelder.
