He was a member of the Masons and the Shriners.
He served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon completing his service, he worked at Magnavox in various jobs. He was a truck driver for Greene County Express.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Linda Sexton; sisters and brothers-in-law: Carmen Ricker, Shirley Jaynes, Linda Adams of Tusculum, Phyllis and Bobby Ripley of Treadway, and Teresea and Mark Krause of Nashville; brother and sister-in-law: J.D. and Rena Sexton of Afton; brothers-in-law and wives: R.D. “Wimp” and Kay Southerland, J.C. Southerland, Ray Southerland, and Jerry Jr. and Gwyn Southerland; sisters-in-law and husband: Patsy and James Ellenburg and Mary Ruth Parton; several nieces and nephews; and lots of special friends.
He was the son of the late Charlotte and Alonzo Sexton and was preceded in death by a brother, William Bruce Sexton.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 20, 2015, in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 1:45 pm Tuesday at the cemetery for the graveside service. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
