He was a wonderful and loving Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend. He was Loved by and he Loved his family, and friends very much, especially his only grandson Elijah Franklin, who affectionately called him “Poppy”.
He is survived by his wife: Edna Sue (Daugherty) Franklin for 55 years, (They were dating since they were 16 & 17) and married on Jan 24, 1969; his son, Ronald (Rhonda) Franklin of Chattanooga; one grandson, Elijah Franklin of Chattanooga; daughter, Krystal (Teddy) Lawing of Greeneville; brother, Lanny (Jannie) Franklin of Baileyton Community; brother-in-laws, James Daugherty of Greeneville and Dennis (Joy) Daugherty of Russellville, TN; aunt, (Joyce) Morrow of Ocala, Florida; and uncle, (Jack) Hope of Chuckey, TN.
He is also survived by his nieces & nephews, Thomas (Ashley) Franklin, Michael Franklin, Rebecca (Eric) Johnson, Dawn (Andy) Atkinson, Tamara (Jodie) Britton, Dennis Lynn (Sherry) Daugherty, Tonya (Eric) Daniels, Carmelita Blakley, Angel Morris, Jeffrey (Kaylynn) Daugherty and several cousins, great nieces & great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne H. & Margaret L. (Morrow) Franklin; brother, Danny Franklin; an Infant Sister; and nephew, Timothy Franklin; and sister-in-laws, Wanda Bible, and Deborah Daugherty.
He was a member of Greeneville First Free Will Baptist Church where he had attended since childhood, over the years he had served as a deacon, teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.
He went to Glenwood Elementary School and was a 1965 Graduate of Saint James High School.
He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Instead of being drafted for the ARMY he Volunteered for the United States Marine Corp, where he served from April 11, 1966- Nov 12, 1968, where he reached the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning from Vietnam, he worked at several places in town over the years including TRW, Magnavox, and Minco in Midway (he retired from Minco after over 20 years).
His hobbies include working in his garage on lawn mowers and other small engines, for himself and friends and family. Enjoyed watching various small engine repairs on YouTube on how to fix things.
The family will receive friends from 12pm-2pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024 preceding the funeral service at 2pm at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Larry McElroy and Rev. Dennis Daugherty officiating.
Interment will be held immediately after the funeral service at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers are Tom Franklin, Tyler Morris, Cory Britton, Dennis Lynn Daugherty, Jeffrey Daugherty, Michael Franklin, and Mark Metcalf
Honorary Pallbearers are The Men of Greeneville First Free Will Baptist Church, Friends, Neighbors and Great Nephews, and his Classmates of Saint James High School.
The family would also like to acknowledge his special friends, Buddy Dale and Helen Fillers, Jerry & Edna Dixson, Mark and Suzanne (Anna Mae & Eva Katherine) Metcalf, and his neighbors and friends.
