Effie Bible, born September 1, 1918, of Greeneville, Tennessee, passed away at her home after 105.5 years of sharing her kindness and love for all her family and friends. Effie was known by many names “Effie Stella Cogdill McIntosh Shelton Bible” but more than that as a mother, granny, aunt, cousin, and every other title you can imagine. Effie was one of 10 children born to James Cogdill and Mary Bible. She worked and lived in Greeneville all her life and was active in the community and church, Moose Lodge 692, and the women’s auxiliary in the VFW Post 1990. She retired from working at Magnavox after several decades of working the line and as a supervisor. Always cooking enough food on Sunday to feed the entire community and being at every special event for her enormous family, she would come with a smile and always comment “how come you haven’t come to see me.” Her spirit took her traveling all over the United States with so many adventures that we cannot name them all here.
Effie was married to G.W. McIntosh Sr., Coolidge Shelton, and Paul Bible who have all passed. Predeceased by son James Calvin “Mac” McIntosh Sr., daughters Mary “Margaret” Leo and Nellie Tunnell. Grandchild Wesley Wheatley and great grandchild Josten Pittman. Sons’ in-law Paul Wheatley and John Leo.
She is survived by son G.W. “Dub” (Elaine) McIntosh Jr., stepdaughter Dorris Randolph, and stepson David (Beverly) Shelton. Daughter in-law Nancy “Polly” McIntosh. Grandchildren surviving “Granny” are James Calvin “Mac” (Lynne) McIntosh Jr., Chris McIntosh, Melody Tunnell, Sabrina Wheatley, David (Katherine) McIntosh, Travis (Lisa) McIntosh, and Hunter (Jessica) McIntosh. Step grandchildren Cindy (Danny) Arrington, Bryan (Connie) Randolph, Maggie Shelton, and Billy (Andrea) Bible. Great grandchildren Kimberly (Carl) Wilson, Casey McIntosh, Christopher “Kipper” (Kathryn) McIntosh, Lyndeidra (Ray) Tolbert, Taylor McIntosh, Emma C. McIntosh, Jayda Pittman, Will McIntosh, Drew McIntosh, Lucas McIntosh, Alan McIntosh, Emma J. McIntosh, and Mattie-Belle McIntosh. Great step grandchildren Lake Davis, Annie Randolph, Pam Randolph, Zack Randolph, and Josh (Beth) Randolph. One great great grandchild Raylyn Tolbert; and step great great grandchildren Harmony Davis, Havyn Alcatera, Lukas Randolph, and Paige Randolph. Cherished friends Micheal and Phyllis Moore. We wish all nieces, nephews, cousins, and all other family members could be acknowledged, but know she loved each and every one.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to everyone that was part of her life by inviting friends and family for visitation at the Kiser-Rose Funeral Home, 125 Idletime Dr, Greeneville, TN 37743, Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 5:30-7 pm ET. Graveside service will be at the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery, using the E. Vann Road entrance, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 2-3 pm ET. Flowers were always Effie’s favorite thing in the world, but in lieu of flowers donations can be sent to (Women of the Moose, in memoriam for Effie Bible, 728 Kiser Blvd, Greeneville, TN 37745).
