home surrounded by loved ones. She endured a long and brave battle with ovarian cancer that
began seventeen years ago. Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and
friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with her over the years and the
knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people. Her example of courage and vulnerability
through her own trials will continue to inspire us each and every day. She taught us that
unconditional love is the most powerful gift in the world and to always keep our faith and trust in
Jesus Christ.
She was a member of the Greeneville Seventh Day Adventist Church and was active as long as
her health permitted. She will long be remembered for her optimism, her warm, smiling face and
open arms as she greeted church members each Sabbath. She also took great joy in providing
food while assisting in the church fellowship meals.
Survivors include her children and their families, daughter: Nancy, of the home, and Cliff Gaddy
of McFarlan, North Carolina, sons and spouses, Hoby and Sandy Hughes of Greeneville and
David and Rachel Hughes of Chuckey. Three grandsons: Adam Christopher Hughes, Ryan
Ethan Hughes, and Jake Levi Hughes. Her sister-in-laws, Helen Hughes of Afton and Betty
Webb of Greeneville. Several nieces and nephews and she leaves many special friends. She also

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Arlie Hobart Hughes; her parents,
Thomas and Fronnie Woods; her in-laws, Doris and Clara Hughes; her brothers, Hugh and
