Troy was born December 24,1968, to DeLoss and Letitia (Nichols) Greenlee, in Greencastle.
He graduated from South Putnam High School in 1987. He was a star basketball and baseball player, winning two sectional championships in basketball, scoring 1556 points in his career. He was a pitcher for his baseball team, and they also won a sectional championship.
Troy graduated from DePauw University in 1991 with a degree in Economics. While at DePauw he played basketball, a captain of the 1989-90 and 1990-91 teams; the 89-90 team was runner-up in NCAA Division III National Championships.
Upon graduation, he went to work for the Chicago Board of Trade.
He returned to DePauw, receiving a degree in Education in 1998, and received the Robert H. Farber Outstanding Senior in Education Award.
Troy was hired by Greencastle Community Schools in 1999, serving as basketball coach and history teacher. His team won a sectional in 2004, and he coached for 20 years.
In 2016 he became the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal for White River Valley Schools, and remained there for five years.
Troy accepted a position at Cloverdale Schools in 2022, where he taught mathematics.
In 2012, Troy and his wife, Becky, and colleague Kyle Shirk, started the Straight Paths Driving School, and through that endeavor, he had an opportunity to meet even more students of Putnam County and surrounding areas.
He had a deep faith in God, and loved and followed Jesus.
His greatest joy was spending time with his children and other family members, and watching his childrens’ sports activities.
Troy was preceded in death by his father, DeLoss Greenlee, uncle, Keith Greenlee, and grandparents Lloyd and Leona Greenlee, and Orla and Irma Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Dawson) Greenlee, sons, Jordan Hickam (Kellie), Rodney Ford, Trey Greenlee, Robert Jacob, “RJ” Greenlee, and daughter, Janae Greenlee, mother, Letitia Greenlee, brother, Doug Greenlee (Shelly), sister, Sandy Welty (Kent), Nephews, Tyler Welty (Sara), Nathan Welty (Grace), Cory Welty (Ronica), Nieces, Erin Greenlee-Nixon (Joe), Erica Greenlee, Aunt, Twyla Habig, Aunt Juanita Austin.
Cousins Darren Habig (Becki) and Eric Habig (Jane) David Greenlee (Vicky), Ron Greenlee (Debbie), Marcia Jones (John), and many other family members.
Services will be held Monday December 16th, at 4:00, at Greencastle Christian Church, 620 Primrose Lane, Greencastle, with Pastor Mark Miller, officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the ceremony. There will be additional visitation hours from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Burial will follow on Tuesday at Coatesville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an education fund for Trey, RJ and Janae Greenlee at Everwise Credit Union. Checks may be made payable to Everwise Credit Union, with Troy Greenlee in the memo line.
