Richard was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on October 3, 1952, the son of Richard Charles and Margry May (Yost) Pitts and was a graduate of Paw Paw High School in Paw Paw, Michigan. He graduated from Heavy Equipment Operator School in Florida.
Mr. Pitts was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Greencastle, and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 841. He worked as a Heavy Machine Operator with Ralph Rogers for 10 years, then Hanson Aggregates for 25 years until he retired in 2010. He resumed working after retirement as a truck driver. He drove for Fred Cox, Jarbow Trucking, and Collisi Trucking until 2017.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and trucking. He had a passion for cooking, and a deep passion for operating heavy equipment, but above all he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sue Pitts; two daughters, Christian Lee Crum, (Rodney), and Holly Ann Phillips, (Bradley); four grandchildren, Paislee Ann Phillips, Case Phillip Crum, Brantley Douglas Phillips, and Cohen Lee Crum; three sisters, Nancy Giordano, Pamela Williams, (Tom), and Annie Parker, (Steve); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Charles and Margry May (Yost) Pitts; a sister, Christina Carlson; and a brother, Timothy A Pitts.
A celebration of life will be planned by the family at a later date.
