Nancy Jane Emison, beloved daughter and sister, passed into eternal rest on May 11, 2024, in Orleans, Massachusetts, at the age of 70, after a brief illness. She was born June 18, 1953, in Rome, New York, the daughter of John C. and Barbara Evans Emison. She grew up in Rome and graduated from Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana, with a degree in history. After completing her Master of Museum Studies at the University of Delaware, she became Assistant Curator for the Mount Vernon Ladies Association. In 1989, she earned a J.D. from George Mason University and worked for the Bureau of National Affairs, a legal publishing company, until her retirement in 2015. She resided in Fairfax, Virginia. She spent her retirement years pursuing her weaving hobby, traveling with her sister, Lucy, and caring for her parents. She was a Life Member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Eleanor Wilson Chapter. She served as Chapter Historian and as District of Columbia State Chair of Genealogical Records. She assembled, transcribed and indexed over 100 pages of primary records (Bible records, cemetery records, parish records, tombstone inscriptions, etc.) for submission to the DAR Library. She was a good friend to many, and the love of those friends sustained her in her final weeks. Nancy was predeceased by her father, John C. Emison. She is survived by her mother, sisters Lucy Emison and Patricia Emison (David Feldman), and nieces Chloe Feldman Emison (Chris McMullan) and Linnea Feldman Emison. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 650 Main Street, Chatham, Massachusetts 02633 in the coming weeks. Burial will be May 21, 2011 at 11:00am at Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
