George Michael “Mike” Harrigan, 81, of Greencastle passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville.
Mike was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 27, 1939, the son of George Joseph and Mildred (Espel) Harrigan and was a graduate of Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati.
Mr. Harrigan was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and the Knights of Columbus. He owned and operated Surge Dairy Equipment for many years prior to working as Director of Maintenance for North Putnam Community Schools, where he served for 22 years until his retirement. Mike enjoyed woodworking in his shop, and celebrating his Irish heritage with rousing renditions of “The Harrigan Song”. He loved easy listening music and working with his scroll saw. Mike made numerous gifts for family and friends. He enjoyed people and always had time for a conversation.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years Elizabeth Harrigan; three children, Jeffery M. Harrigan, (wife-Michelle), Jean M. Rosys, (husband-Gary), and Kevin J. Harrigan, (wife-Mary); three brothers, Ray Harrigan, (wife-Carroll), Danny Harrigan, (wife-Sherry), and Larry Harrigan, (wife-Dee); a sister, Ann Harrigan; Marilyn Harrigan (the mother of his children); as well as eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Pat, Joe, and Tim Harrigan, and two sisters, Marie Zeph and Kay Dube.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
