Martha "Marty" Petersen

At the age of 12 she moved with her family to Iowa. She graduated from Ringsted High School in 1947. She worked in different jobs until she met and married Roger Petersen Sept. 10, 1949. At that time she helped her husband in the hardware store and was mother and homemaker to her three children and husband.

In 1963, they moved to Greeley, at which time Marty worked at a large department store, State Farm, as a teacher’s aide and nurse’s aide. Marty retired in 1985 so she could travel with her husband and spend their winters in southern California. Marty enjoyed volunteering at the hospital (NCMC) for 25-plus years, playing bridge, crafts, and sewing, plus spending time with her family and friends.

Marty is survived by her husband, Roger Petersen, Greeley; sons, Craig Petersen and wife, Cindy, Greeley, David Petersen and wife, Leanne, Greeley; daughter, Terri Petersen, Ault, Colo.; grandchildren, Scott and Heidi Petersen, Jeff and Nicole Petersen, Traci and Ron Pinelli, Kimberli and Jordan Novak, Jaclynn Rusch, and six great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Shryock, Estherville, Iowa; sisters, Opal and Ordean Kabrick, Bancroft, Iowa, Wanda Finnestad, Ringsted, Iowa.

Marty was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raulin Shryock, Kenneth Shryock, Robert Shryock; and two sisters, Helen Walker, Virginia Tonderum.

Memorial service is at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Ave., Greeley, Colo.
