Maria Isaac Piedra-Hernandez, 92, of Greeley, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at her home. She was born June 6, 1929 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Bartolmoe Piedra and Maria Tiodora Hernandez. She was the second oldest of eight siblings.
Maria was raised in Colonia Progreso Rio Grande. She worked as a baker, rancher, took care of animals and agriculture. When she was 19, Maria married Jose Benito Esparza. They were married for 48 years.
Maria always had horses and cows. She enjoyed making food for the whole town and she loved St. Elena de la Cruz.
Maria is survived by her daughters, Evangelina Esparza and Maria del Rosario (Raul Medina); brothers, Cruz Piedra and Silvestre Piedra; ten grandchildren, Nora, Elia, Salvador, Alondra, Maritza, Luz Maria, Gabriel, Orlando, Herman and Julio Alfredo; 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2021 with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Greeley. Interment will be at Cementerio Colonia Progreso in Rio Grande, Zacatecas, Mexico.
