He was born on February 7, 1967 to David and Melinda (Hansen) Pearson in Alamosa, Colorado.
John was raised in Greeley, Colorado and attended Greeley West High School where he graduated in 1985. As he grew older, he started to travel more and lived in many places including California and Ohio. Throughout his life, John did many things but his greatest passion was being a mechanic / fabricator.
He started out working at Firestone as a general repair mechanic specializing in brakes and suspension. He moved to California in 1988 to work for Walker Evans Racing. There, John was building and also racing offroad racing trucks in the S.C.O.R.E. offroad series. In 1990 he married his High School sweetheart, Kristin (Peterson) Standen. That same year he worked for Nissan Performance Technology where he was a special projects fabricator. John designed and built fixtures to hold components for destructive testing to improve the safety and performance of their race cars. In 1993 John started working for Rahal Racing in Ohio. He was on the Honda test team developing the new Honda Indy car motor. He then moved to the race team where he changed tires in the pit stops. That same year, John welcomed his first child, Jordyn Pearson. In 1996 John and his family moved back to Greeley, Colorado where he opened up his own fabricator shop. He developed his own business, JP Racing. In 2001 he welcomed his second child, Jacob Pearson. Later on, John met Ron Jones and started collaborating on projects. John soon became Ron’s head mechanic. Over the last few months of John’s life, he worked on many fabricating projects that allowed him to stay home and spend time with his family. This occupation provided him with many opportunities to meet and mingle with amazing people all across the world.
John was an adrenaline junkie and enjoyed doing anything to keep moving. He loved going to his family cabin in the Wyoming mountains, plus golfing and fishing, motocross, building and taking apart things, and using his knowledge whenever he could. John was a very smart man; anything he took apart he could put back together and make it even better. His dream was to one day drink the ice cold milk from the Indy 500 Championship trophy.
John loved going to the pumpkin patch every year with his children. He was funny and always joking around with his friends and family. He was also as honest as they come, and would always tell you how it is. Most importantly, John was caring and kind, no matter how stubborn he was.
Aside from being at the racetrack, one of John's favorite things was eating and making breakfast food, specifically pancakes! He loved to make Jordyn and Jacob pancakes for birthdays or special occasions and would write letters or make faces out of them.
He will be missed dearly by his family and friends that loved him.
John is survived by his daughter, Jordyn Pearson; son, Jacob Pearson; mother, Melinda Pearson; sister, Julie (Curt) Piper; his ex-wife, Kristin Standen; nieces and nephews, Brandon, Austin, and Laura; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews.
