Jack Thompson, 90, passed away on May 13, 2023. Born on September 28, 1932 to Vernon and Lillian Thompson. On July 18, 1952 Jack married Marjorie Thompson (Grooms). They celebrated 70 years together in 2022.
After graduating High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in April of 1951. He served for four years and then an additional four years in the US Naval Reserves. During his active duty, Jack was stationed at the US Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. He served on the USS John A. Bole (DD-755) as a Machinist’s Mate First Class, during the Korean War. Jack earned several medals (National Defense Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Medal [3 Stars]; China Service Medal; Korean Presidential Unit Citation Medal). Jack was honorably discharged from the US Navy in April of 1955 and from the US Naval Reserve in April of 1959. During his time in the Naval Reserve, Jack worked for the Telephone Company and then worked for 33 years with the USPS as a Letter Carrier. He and his wife were also Managers for New Colony and Longmeadow apartment complexes during the later years of working for the USPS. The last 29 years he was a loving and dedicated primary caregiver for his wife. This was undoubtedly the most important “job” of his life.
Jack and his wife enjoyed vacationing primarily in Mexico but they also loved the mountains. They enjoyed living in the Estes Park area for many years. The last several years they live at The Bridge Assisted Living Center. Jack will be missed by his family and many friends.
Jack is survived in life by his wife, Marjorie Thompson, sons, Randy (Pam), Ron (Cindy) grandchildren, Heather (Sam), Jennifer (Matt), Chase, Greg, Brandon (Jennifer), Courtney (Dan), great-grandchildren, Nora, Ari, Marjorie, Demi, Lauren, Brooklyn and Grayson.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Lillian Thompson.
Per Jack’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time.
