Elmer was born in Gering, Nebraska to Jacob and Martha Rothman on February 22, 1935. He grew up on an irrigation and dairy farm near Kuner, Colorado. He graduated from Greeley High School, and then received a BS Degree from Colorado State University in 1957; the same year that he and his new bride, Billie Jean Worley, were married.
They moved to Denver and had their 3 children, where Elmer worked as a County Agent for 8 years in different horticulture and landscaping positions.
They moved back to Greeley, where they raised their 3 kids, when Elmer graduated with a Master’s Degree from UNC in Horticulture, and was then employed by CSU Extension as an Agronomist for Weld County. Elmer specialized in soil, crop, and seed certification programs, until his retirement. After his retirement, Elmer went on to work part-time as a Claims Adjuster for crop hail insurance in NE Colorado.
Elmer served as the Manager of the Weld County Fair for numerous years. He was an active member of the Jaycees and Rocky Mountain Turf and Grass Association. He and BJ enjoyed traveling to warmer climates in Arizona and Ft. Lauderdale, and thoroughly enjoyed family time with their kids and grandkids.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Billie Jean Worley Rothman of Greeley, who he was married to for 67 years. He’s also survived by his son, Tad Rothman, of Greeley; daughter, Laura Lodge, and spouse, Scott Lodge, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; son, Michael Rothman, of Denver Colorado; sister, Nancy Genoways, of Greeley; grandchildren, Daniel and John Rothman, Kelley & Faye Moss, and Corinne Rivera; as well as great-grandchildren, Anthony Rivera, Mikaela Lodge, and Violet Lodge. Surviving nieces and nephews are Tammy Ruth, Julie Daughtrey and Robert Jones; cousins Joanne Vogel & Betty Buxman; several other cousins; and dearest friends, Jean Sharpley and family. Elmer was pre-deceased by his sister, Barbara Wiebelhaus, and his grandson, Zachary Lodge.
A service will be held for Elmer Rothman on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Allnutt Funeral Home at 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634. A family viewing will be held at Allnutt Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m., followed by an open viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m.
No funeral procession will follow. Elmer will be buried alongside his parents, Jacob and Martha Rothman at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
