Donald (Don) Ernest Sherman passed away April 2, 2020 from natural causes with Alzheimer’s. Don was born in Longmont, Colorado to Pearl and Marshall Sherman and grew up in Niwot moving to Estes Park where he graduated High School in 1959.
Don enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1960 and served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic – Hydraulics until his discharge as an AMH3 (E-4) in December 1963. He served with the Airborne Early Warning Squadron One (VW-1) “Typhoon Trackers” in the Central and Western Pacific both repairing and flying on the Lockheed EC-121 “Warning Star” aircraft with the mission of tracking tropical storms and typhoons. Don was very proud of his service in the Navy and was most happy talking about his experiences tracking typhoons out of the Philippines, Okinawa, Hawaii and Guam.
Don met Marilyn Nelson of Greeley and married in 1965 having four children. Don worked for Nelson’s Office Supply in Greeley for 15 years and was active in Boy Scouts of America and was a Hunter Safety Instructor.
Don then married Maxine Moya of Fort Collins and moved to Boise, Idaho. Don retired from Horizon Airlines after 30 years. Don had a passion for roses and was a champion rose grower. Don also loved his Starbuck’s Coffee.
Don leaves his twin brother Ron (Sue); sister Carolyn; daughter, Jennifer (Eric); son’s Greg (Caroline) and Scott (Valerie); step son Michael (Christine); and grandchildren, Trevor, Natalie and Thea. Don preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane, wife Maxine and daughter Theresa.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
