Catarino Blas “Scott” Martinez, 53, of Greeley, formerly of Platteville, passed away October 26, 2022 at his home. Blas was born on October 26, 1969 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Catarino and Carolina (Garcia) Martinez.
He graduated from Valley High School where he excelled as a student athlete. He was an extremely talented baseball and football player and his passion for sports continued into his adult life and he shared his love of baseball and the Nebraska Cornhuskers with his sons.
After high school, he attended University of Wyoming studying pre-engineering and then went on to Porterville Jr College in California to continue playing baseball.
After his education, he was employed as a Master Electrician for over 30 years. He was often called on by friends and family to help with electrical repairs, and being the selfless man he was, he would never accept compensation in the amount that would normally be expected for the repairs.
He was most proud of his sons. He was the best dad to them and loved to watch them in their sport activities, especially baseball. He coached them when they were young and continued to coach them from the stands while they were in high school and college.
On October 5, 2018 he married his true love Renee in Estes Park. Estes Park had a special meaning to them, and they often visited Estes Park with their dog Chica, to fish at the “secret spot”, and to look for Elk.
Blas was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed bow hunting for large game, especially elk, and pheasant hunting.
Blas was an amazing stepdad to his stepdaughters, Ricki and Brianna. He would help them with vehicle repairs, house remodeling, and absolutely anything they ever needed.
He was an amazing cook and enjoyed anything that involved food. He would often watch YouTube videos in search of new recipes and different methods for preparing meals. He was a Pitmaster like no other. He loved to smoke meats and whole hogs. He owned his own catering business, High Plains Smoke-n-Que. He loved to entertain and have friends and family over to share his food creations with them, while listening to Tejano jams.
Blas had the biggest heart and was loved by so many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was proceeded in death by his mother Carol Martinez, his gramita Carolina Garcia, and his grandma Rita Martinez and grandpa Marcos, Martinez, Sr.
Scott is survived by his wife, Renee, sons, Ramiro and Diego, step daughters, Ricki and Brianna, his father, Cotty Martinez, brother, Chris Martinez, sister, Dolly (Justin) Casares, and several nieces and nephews, many extended family members and his precious teacup poodle Chica.
