Scott Wellington Keyes

Mr. Scott Wellington Keyes peacefully passed away on December 9, 2023, at the age of 78 from complications from lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on August 16, 1945, in the city of Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Keyes resided in Grapevine, Texas at the time of his passing.

Scott was a kindhearted, giving, considerate, loving man who left an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He possessed a remarkable talent for humor, delighting those around him with his quick wit and delightful puns. He was able to connect with children of any age, leaving a trail of smiles and joy from his dad jokes and silly games.

Scott is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years Lisa Keyes, his two children and their families: Jennifer Milligan (Tyler), Jeffrey Keyes (Fredy) as well as 4 grandchildren Ian, Cora, Joshua and Eli; his siblings Christopher Keyes, Janice Keyes, and Lisa Glass. He was preceded in death by his father, Lieutenant Colonel Karl Keyes, and his mother, Mrs. Edna Keyes. To his family, Scott was a beacon of love and guidance, whose presence brought comfort and joy.

Mr. Keyes possessed a breadth of educational background, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geology as well as a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Massachusetts. He furthered his knowledge and expertise by obtaining a Certificate of Hazardous Materials Management from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Scott's commitment to his country was evident through his military service in the Army from June 1968 to June 1971. During that time, he conducted gravity mapping in Ethiopia.

Scott worked as a Petroleum Geologist and Professor of Geology and had a passion for his field of expertise. His knowledge and teachings inspired many young minds.

Scott’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing strength and comfort during challenging times. He was an active member of Emmanuel Presbyterian church, where he served as a deacon and elder in the church, as well as sang in the choir, played in the hand bell choir, taught Sunday school, and organized community events.

Scott enjoyed numerous hobbies, including traveling, reading, cooking, singing, and acting. He sang at Carnegie Hall and acted alongside his students at Tarrant County College. Scott had a stack of books in many locations around the house, and frequently had his head in a book.

J.E. Foust & Son Funeral home in Grapevine, Texas has been entrusted with the arrangements for Mr. Keyes.

In honor of Scott’s remarkable life, a memorial service will be held in his remembrance on Wednesday December 20, 2023 at 11am at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church (2701 Harwood Rd, Bedford, TX 76021).
