Marva Davis' childhood was short lived in Mexico, (Mormon Colonies). Her Davis family moved to Chama, New Mexico before she was eight. Soon after, her family settled on a farm at Queen Creek, Arizona. As a young woman she learned the trait of being a hard worker. Marva was always a top student in all of her years of school. She was the Valedictorian for her graduating Junior High School class of 1955. She was an honor student all through high school. She had many leadership skills and was active in school class offices, sports and music activities. While in high school she was a Life Guard, varsity tennis player, and waitress. She learned how to knit, crochet and sew as a child and continued that talent all through her life.
Marva met David Lawrence Cohen, who was a soldier in the Army. They married on February 17, 1962 in Chandler, Arizona. Together they traveled the world being stationed in: France, Turkey, Texas, Chandler, Arizona (while her husband did two tours of duty in Vietnam), Germany and Massachusetts. Marva loved children so much that she obtained a daycare license (1980's) for her Reno, Nevada home. Her home was a busy place and it always smelled like homemade cooking! Everyone knew and loved her. She was unique, kind and loving to everyone. She attended "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints," faithfully and had a vibrant testimony of God the Father and Jesus Christ. She always put the Lord first in sincere prayer and daily scripture reading.
Marva became single. She bought a home in Kaysville, Utah. She married Leon Davis Mecham on July 26, 1997 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. Marva served for 20 years at the Bountiful, Utah temple. It was her passion and love to attend the Lord's Holy House. She also loved her calling at church as primary teacher to the eight year olds. Leon was her companion teacher. They were a sweetheart couple and so adorable together.
Marva continued to work in Utah way past retirement. She worked at Weight Watchers, Curves, The Apple Tree Assisted Living, as the best cook ever! She went above and beyond to make birthday cakes for each aged person who had a birthday. She cleaned out burned homes, and on the side took care of the Elderly in their homes. Marva and Leon loved to travel. Marva walked many miles every day, and knitted as she walked. People called her the knit walker.
