Emma was raised in Columbus, Ohio, and married John Winegardner on April 7, 1951. The family moved to Hurst, Texas, in 1976 where Emma lived until her death. A homemaker and mother, Emma had a beautiful voice and loved singing around the house and was in the church choir at Peace Lutheran Church where she was a member. She loved traveling, reading, playing Scrabble with friends, and being GG to her great-grandchildren.
Up until the last hours of her life, Emma maintained her kindness, love of family and friends, and delightful sense of humor, expressing gratitude for her long life and the wonderful people and experiences she enjoyed over her 93 years of life while longing to meet Jesus and be reunited with her loved ones who preceded her in death.
Left to cherish their memories while they mourn her death are daughter Diane Sloan; daughter Molly Bowers and husband, Bruce; grandson Stephen Bowers and wife, Libby; stepgranddaughter Cindy Bowers and spouse, Johnny Cunningham; stepgrandson Drew Bowers and wife, Brooke; great-grandsons Hayden, Nolan, and Jack.
Preceding Emma in death are her husband John; son Steven; her parents, sister Marlene, and brother Bob; and son-in-law Kevin Sloan.
The family will receive friends on November 21, 2024, from 11:30 to 1:30 at J.E. Foust & Sons Funeral Home, 523 S. Main Street, Grapevine. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Emma’s favorite charity: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
