He was born in Gary, Indiana on July 28, 1949 to William (Bill) and Charlotte Schofield. After graduating from William A. Wirt High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he worked as a Weather and Meteorological Equipment Repairman. While in the Air Force, Bruce earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, and later another Master’s Degree in Systems Management. After quickly rising through the Airman and Non-Commissioned Officer ranks, Bruce was chosen for highly selective Officer Training School to be commissioned as an officer. One of Bruce’s proudest moments as an Air Force leader was to command a detachment while stationed at Zweibrucken Air Base, Germany. Following 20 years of service to his country, he retired at the rank of Captain.
Bruce was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He had a passion for traveling, gardening, photography, scuba diving, and a life-long pursuit of learning.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father Bill and mother Charlotte. He is survived by Pam, his loving wife of 49 years; three children Shannon Thompson, Mindy Schofield and Alex Schofield; five grandchildren Kegan Thompson, Steven and Nadia Schofield, and Tyler and Kennedy Schofield; and one great granddaughter Nova Schofield. Bruce is also survived by his brother Bob Schofield and his sister Cheri Whitney.
He will always be remembered for his kind and loving nature, and how he was so courageous throughout his long battles with cancer. He will truly be missed by many.
