Nelson in Long Beach, California. John was a longtime resident of
Grants Pass, Oregon.
He is predeceased by his parents, his
brothers Tom Whatley and WilliamWhatley, and his third wife Laurie Stewart. Survivors include daughters Donna Shackle (Devin) of Apex, NC and Lisa Ernest (Edward) of
McKinney, TX; sisters Ramah Lee Peralta (Frank) of Bonita, CA, Renah
Lee Crow (Brice) of Redlands, CA, and Lyndalee Vandervalk (Stephen)
of Grants Pass, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John also had a dog named Mytzi who was the world to him. As a child
John loved all animals and horses, in particular his own Shetland pony
he named “Alberturkey”. He loved all things outdoors, sports, and the
beauty of nature. John was an amazing craftsman and made beautiful
works of art from wood and was owner of Custom Cabinets &
Woodworks by John Whatley. He loved his family immensely and was
fiercely protective of them.
John was not “religious”, but his faith in God was unshakable, even in
his darkest moments, and he was ready to meet his Heavenly Father. He
will be remembered as a gifted storyteller with a wonderful sense of
humor. He was be cremated, and a private Celebration of Life was held
for immediate family. John was dearly loved, and will be greatly
missed. May he rest in peace.
