Valerino Castro, age 70, went to be with his Lord peacefully at home surrounded by family Monday, July 26, 2021. Valerino was preceded in death by his parents Luis and Victoria Castro; brother and sister-in-law Luis Jr. (Orsilia) Castro; brother, Jose Castro; sister and brother-in-law Maria (Juan) Nino; brother-in-law, Candelario Pena. He is survived by his siblings Candelaria (Junior) Hinojosa, Domingo (Nancy) Castro, Dora Pena, Alfredo (Lupita) Castro, Lupe (Peggy) Herrera, and Jose’s wife, Orsilia Castro. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maria Castro; their daughter, Lisa Anne Castro; their son, Rick (Beth) Castro; their grandchildren Justin, Mason, Connor, Matthew, Emily; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was a General Motors retiree and had a host of hobbies to keep him busy including farming, gardening, fishing, hunting, coin collecting, engraving, welding, auctions, playing cards, and enjoyed all of his animals - cows, pigs, horses, chickens, goats, and his dog, Sunshine. He enjoyed sharing the farm with others and provided hayrides and bonfires for loved ones and friends. He lived a good life, totally doted on his grandchildren, and had a wonderful sense of humor. In 1991, with his wife Maria, they gifted land to The Land Conservancy of West MI. This established The Land Conservancy’s first nature preserve. He will be missed and always remembered.
A Memorial Service of Valerino’s Life will take place 4 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2021, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. In honor of Valerino and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Michigan at https://www.hom.org/donations/memorials/ or the Land Conservancy of West Michigan at www.naturenearby.org/getinvolved/donate/. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcaresgrandville.com.
