When I was young, I lived on the same street as Paul and saw him daily as he walked to the college.  My parents told me he was a professor at the college.  He became part of my daily life, even though he didn’t know it.  Years later I went to work for Alma College and Dr. Splitstone was often seen on campus.  He had a wonderful reputation as a kind person and a great professor.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Splitstone passing. I have many great memories from 50 years ago. I was a neighbor, his paperboy, lawn care and snow removal extraordinaire. We also had many good chess matches. I remember going to his house and his chess board was ready and set on a table beneath his living room ceiling light for some of our evening matches. I rarely won but he taught me a lot and recommended books to help elevate my game. I was lucky to have known him and to help in out. Thanks

I note with sadness the passing of Dr Splitstone.   I was his student for 1 or 2 classes in the late '60's as a physics major.  He was always a patient and kind man, and an excellent teacher of some of the thornier concepts for undergraduate physics students especially for statistical thermodynamics and physical chemistry.  I particularly have fond memories of his mimeographed (you know the old purple print outs, that were ubiquitous in that era) exams, written out in his amazingly small yet legible handwriting.  Alma College had many excellent professors that shaped my life in numerous ways.  Paul Splitstone was definitely in my top 5 pantheon of Alma educators.  I am blessed to have crossed paths with him.

Paul was a dear friend & inspiring teacher, in the classroom & in life.  I met Paul on an archeological dig in Israel, one of many he participated in, before taking an astronomy class from him as a student at Alma.  Over the years, many of my family members had occasion to meet him & consider him a friend.  Paul was welcoming, patient, kind, genuinely interested in others, as well as intelligent.  He was a wonderful conversationalist, knowledgeable in so many subjects & curious & interested in learning more.  Paul had a whimsical smile, gentle laugh & delightful sense of humor.  My life was brighter & enriched by knowing Paul, a cherished & beloved friend.
