Rev. Melvin Edwin Fox

Melvin E. Fox, Age 85, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Melvin was born January 8, 1938 and raised in the Beal City, Michigan community. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Rose Fox; brothers-in-law John Kapral and Ed Spayd. Father Melvin with be lovingly remembered by his siblings Lloyd (Serena) Fox of Richland, Michigan, Dorothy Kapral of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Grace (Garald) Moeggenborg of Lansing, Michigan, Gladys (Ron) Bird of Morro Bay, California, Alice Spayd of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Bea (Bruce) Patrick of Grayling, Michigan, Leonard (Janet) Fox of Hancock, Michigan; 31 nieces and nephews.

Melvin completed the eighth grade in St. Philomena Parish School in Beal City in 1951; he went to St. Joseph Seminary in Grand Rapids for high school and college. He went to St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore for the final two years of college, and then to St. John’s Seminary at Plymouth, Michigan for four years of theology study. Father Melvin was ordained as a priest June 1, 1963. Fr. Melvin served as an associate pastor at St. Francis Xavier, of Grand Rapids; St. Patrick, of Portland; and Holy Spirit of Grand Rapids. Father Melvin served as pastor at Sacred Heart of Evart; St. Agnes of Marion; Holy Family of Sparta; Prince of Peace of North Muskegon; SS Peter and Paul of Ionia.

Mass of Christian Burial for Father Melvin will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2023, with visitation beginning 10 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418. In honor of Father Melvin and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to San Juan Diego Academy.
