Mary (Bush) Vander Kolk, age 83, went home to her Lord and Savior October 30, 2024, where she was joyfully reunited with her husband, Ike and son, Brent. Mary was also preceded in death by parents Clarence and Lois Bush, and brothers Bob and Carl Bush. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Wayne (Shelley) Vander Kolk and Sandy (Chris) LaGrand; daughter-in-law, Jamie Vander Kolk; grandchildren Ivan, Eli, Rachel, Kirsten, Grant, and Beck; brother, Gene (Lilarae) Bush; and sisters-in-law Ruth Bush, Dorie Meendering, and Mary Ligtenberg.
Mary was a graduate of Godwin High School and Butterworth School of Nursing. She married Ike in 1963 and served as a nurse while Ivan served in the Army. Later, she spent several years working for the pastors of Resurrection Life Church and then as a volunteer at Love Your Neighbor. Mary’s true calling was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma. She loved her family dearly, especially doting on her grandchildren. In recent years, she liked to sit with her cappuccino and windmill cookies and gaze at the photos of her grandchildren, commenting about how blessed she was. A strong woman of faith, Mary showed us how to walk with Jesus by serving, loving, encouraging, and praying for others throughout her lifetime. She will be dearly missed.
A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food pantry in memory of Mary, who always made sure no one who came to her house left hungry, but rather, they often left too full. The family welcomes memories and messages at wwwcookcaresgrandville.com in their online guestbook.
