LOPREST James "Jay" Thomas Loprest, age 62, passed away, Tuesday, March 10, 2015, in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Loprest. Jay will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Jayne Loprest (Mailfold); his children, Lindsay and Matt Loprest; his brother, Frank "Bud" (Kim) Loprest; his brother-in-law, George Mailfold; his nieces, Kate and Christy Loprest; and many relatives, close friends and co-workers.
Sports played a vital role in Jay's life. Jay was an avid golfer, and he and Jayne loved to golf together. He donated his time to coaching youth sports while in college, including baseball, soccer and basketball and eventually coaching his own children in later years.
He was a graduate of Northwestern University and received his degree in Journalism. He obtained his M.B.A. from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. Jay was a competitive guy, which helped him excel not only in sports but in his career, most recently as Executive Vice President at G&T Industries in Byron Center, where he oversaw the manufacturing operations of three facilities.
Growing up in Glenview, Illinois, he remained dedicated to Chicago sports, loved attending Bears games with family members, and was certain that this would be the year the Cubs would win the World Series and break the 'Billy Goat' curse. Jay also had a terrific sense of humor and would always make people laugh. Along with work and sports, Jay loved to travel and spend time with his family.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1 to 5 PM Sunday, May 17, at Lakeview Room - Glenview Park District, 2400 Chestnut Avenue, Glenview, IL.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to PANCAN.org or Hospice of Michigan, in Jay's memory. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guestbook online at www.cookcares.com.
