Huberts, Harvey Jay was born on August 14, 1937. He died in the presence of family in Jenison, Michigan on November 16, 2024 at the age of 87. He was welcomed to Heaven into the arms of Jesus after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Harv, as he was known by his friends and family, was a veteran of the US Army, was a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a BA in Accounting and worked in the Dept. of Treasury for the state of Michigan for 37 years and retired in 2002. He married the love of his life, Loretta DeWent, on Oct. 23, 1959. Harv and Loretta welcomed three daughters in the following years of their marriage: Kim, Kris and Kay. They spent the years with their kids traveling the U.S. in their station wagon and trailer - spending time visiting Civil War battlefields, and overheating in a random parking lot or on the side of the road in the mountains. Very fond memories were made, indeed!
By far, the most important thing in Harv's life was his relationship with Jesus and he looked forward to the time he would get to meet his Savior. He shared his faith in words, but mostly in action with his family over the years. He took his responsibilities to his wife and children seriously and did the best he knew how to support them and be present and consistent in their lives, expressing his love for them in many ways. We will be forever grateful to him.
Harv was the son of Cornelius and Pearl (VandenBerg) Huberts. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loretta; children Kim (Pat) Marvin, Kris Huberts, and Kay (Rick) DeMann; honorary daughter, Pauline Unfried; beloved grandchildren Joshua (Samantha) Binney, Cameron (Allison) DeMann, Grace (David) VanDam, Lily (Asher) Marcom, and Callie DeMann; great-grandchildren Gavin, Jaxson, and Emma Binney, Karrington, Willa, and Davis DeMann; brother, Ken (Karen) Huberts; sister-in-law, Betty Huberts; brother-in-law, Dellvan Hoezee; and sister-in-law, Donna Sterk. Preceding him in death is brother, Jim Huberts; sister-in-law, Joyce Hoezee; and brother-in-law, Sam Sterk.
Visitation with family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home, 4235 Prairie St. SW Grandville, MI 49418. A private graveside service will be held to lay Harv to rest. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Legacy Foundation or Words of Hope.
