Grethel (Gret) Ten Harmsel, 88 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, December 18, 2024. She was born Grethel Steigenga in Borculo, Michigan, the youngest of three girls. Gret attended Calvin College where she earned a teaching degree and taught elementary school for many years in California and Michigan. Gret met and married Andy Ten Harmsel and had two children. She was a member of Hillcrest Christian Reformed Church. Gret dedicated many years to bargain hunting and using her “finds” to minister to others. She and Andy faithfully traveled to Mississippi to volunteer in Rolling Fork at the consignment store for two weeks every year, and lead many others to participate in this ministry.
Gret was a devoted mother and dedicated grandmother to her four grandchildren. Gret was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Ten Harmsel, and two sisters Elsie Essenburg and Genevieve Gebben. She is survived by her children Brad TenHarmsel and Karen (Charlie) Meyer; and grandchildren Trevor (Jamie), Dylan (Mychala), and Kaylea TenHarmsel, and Allison Meyer.
Friends may meet with the family from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Hillcrest Christian Reformed Church, 3617 Hillcrest Rd, Hudsonville, Michigan 49426, with the service at 11 a.m. followed by lunch.
Memorial donations may be made to Mississippi Christian Family Services or Unity Christian High School.
