Our dear mother, Gail Cecilia Fonger, nee Smith, sadly passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the age of 87. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend to all she would meet. Gail enjoyed a full life of family and fun, especially game nights. Gail was the Sunday school secretary, choir member, and active in ministry at Calvary Church for over 20 years. After retirement as a remedial and gifted teacher specialist with Wyoming Public five elementary schools, Gail was an enthusiastic member of the Kentwood Senior Chorus. Gail was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; one brother; husband, Lawrence Spence; husband, James Fonger; beloved son, Bill Fonger. Gail is survived by her daughters Janet (John) Dillaman and Sondra (David) Lee; grandchildren James (Julia) Dillaman, Jeff (Lillian) Dillaman, Rebecca Bowers, Michael and Kristen Lee; great-grandchildren Isabella Zwiers, Kaylyn Zwiers, Quincy and Arlo Dillaman, and Nicky Bowers.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to service. In acknowledgment of Gail’s many years of dementia, and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Michigan Chapter.
