Through the years I've always been proud to say "I was named after a clown", Droopy the clown. Chet and my father, Bob Hicok, were childhood friends. I have fond memories of seeing Droopy perform at the Grand Haven water show 40- 50 years ago. I'm so sad Chet is no longer on this side of eternity, but he lives on every time I sign my signature. My sympathies to Chet's Family & close friends.I only knew Chet from the furniture manufacturing class that he instructed on the corner of Ball & Leonard. I didn't even know he was a clown but I can definitely believe it. He was funny, kind, caring, generous and a skilled wood craftsman. Safety was always his number one and constant concern for us students. I was honored to have had the opportunity of helping make a beautiful kitchen table & bench for his home,† May God welcome you and keep you.

Grandpa Chet had a humbleness about him. A true example of a Godly man, never complaining, and always thankful! We will truely miss him. If Chet is in your thoughts and heart he will never truely be gone, and he is in ours..

Dear family of Chet'sI met Chet on my first day as a secretary in the CCOT program where Chet was teaching furniture repair. He was the lead person in refurbishing the McCabe-Marlowe House. He was the finest gentleman, always happy, respectful and the greatest clown. I believe I have never met a finer human being. My condolences to you all. I am certain Chet will be missed by all. Grandpa Chet will be truly missed. I remember seeing him for the first time as Droopy the Clown at sunday school. He was the only clown I wasn't afraid of! We have been blessed to share many fond memories with him and your family. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. May God's love and peace fill you all!

Moore Family and Friends,I have a memories that I want to share of Chet:As example:- I remember the big work truck he used to drive - not sure of the color but he loved all of the compartments on that truck- I still have the photo we took together on the top of Orchard View Elementary after he took it upon himself to restore the bell/belfry from the old school. That was special.- The times when Droopy would come to school and visit ... always a favorite (Somehow he even convinced Mr. Annis to dress up as a clown)- All of the times that I would be over (across the street) at the house during any day (school or otherwise) - he was always there with a smile- Remembering when Lori moved to Oakwood Street later in the life (near our new house) and Chet helped make sure everything was OK- and so much more...Such a kind - gentle - giving man. He was always there with a smile, hug, encouragement and more. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and more. My entire family (multiple generations) enjoyed all of our times with Chet. He will be missed - but not forgotten - that's how it's supposed to work. Our love and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. Chet was an amazing man, and we have so many wonderful memories of him. He touched our lives and so many others, and now he is hearing "Well done!".

Chet was such a kind and gentle man. He was also such a clown! We can only imagine the joy that is now His! May the Holy Spirit embrace your entire family with His peace and comfort as you grieve your loss.

I will always have very fond memories of my Uncle Chet as "Droopy the Clown" at the restaurant in the Pantlind Hotel. We went there many times while I was growing up and I thought it was pretty cool that he, the clown, was my uncle! I also remember seeing him doing stunts in the water ski show in Grand Haven many years ago, and taking part in dramatic plays at his church - he was very talented. He was a very kind, cheerful and fun person, and his love for the Lord and people was very evident throughout his life. Our love and prayers go out to you all as he will be greatly missed.

I will always remember Chet ringing my door bell and presenting me with a beautiful custom cane he made for me while recovering from an arthritis flare-up. I still have the cane and share the story with many about an amazingly sensitive and caring man. I have fond memories of a great man. He was such a positive influence on me. May God fill his family with grace and peace.
