Catherine Jean Dewing, age 70, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, December 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin R. and Wilma Jean Holt; in-laws William and Annie Louise Dewing; brothers Edward and Benjamin Holt; sister, Carol Lynn Holt; sisters-in-law Susan Holt and Sadie Holt.
Catherine will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, William Dewing; children Shawn Smith (Ethan Dozeman), Bill Dewing (Susan Wisner); grandchildren AJ and Cassidy Smith, Masyn and Wil Dewing; and sweet dog, Juliette. She leaves behind a beautiful and large family of her siblings Carl and Joyce Holt, Janet and Ken Liefbroer, Bill Holt, David and Kristin Holt, Jill and Gustavo Hennessey, Glen Holt; sister- and brother-in-law Debbie and Mark Kopinski; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and in the last years, special little ones who touched her life deeply.
Catherine married William on January 20, 1973. She worked as the pool supervisor at Jackson Park; Director of Safety Services at the American Red Cross in Grand Rapids; medical assistant at Spectrum Health; and the Life Enrichment Coordinator at American House in Jenison. She retired in January of 2020. Catherine spent her retired years caring for ill family members and loving her husband and family. She was ready to help anyone at a moment’s notice. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church - serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Catherine enjoyed singing, playing her guitar, sewing, gardening, and a huge array of crafting and painting. She was all about family. Nothing brought more joy to her life than her family and large extended family.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 12 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1481 Baldwin St., Jenison, Michigan, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Reverend Adam Peck will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or Holy Cross Lutheran Church - Children’s Ministry.
