On Friday, October 7, 2022, Bill Evans, went to be with his Lord at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Lillie Mae (Fearnside) Evans; brothers Jackie and Russ Evans; grandson, Drew Riebel.
Bill was born in California, but moved to Michigan as a child. The family lived in Detroit until his mother passed away. He then lived on his grandparents farm in Fremont while his dad worked in Detroit to support the family. He grew up strong working on the farm and loved playing baseball and football in high school. He would say, “the chores always had to be done before anything else." Bill was drafted into the Army after school and served for two years, mostly in Texas, as a medic. After the service, he started working at Packaging Corp of America until he retired after 40 years. Bill was an avid sports fan with his favorite teams being the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and the University of Michigan. Bill loved the Lord and always served Him to the best of his ability.
Bill was loved so much and will be missed by his wife of 70 years, Mary (Dursema) Evans; children Nancy (Rick) Steenbergen, Richard Evans, Joyce (Larry Erhardt Jr.) Evans; grandchildren Jill (Matt) Arim, Julie (Mike) Bond, and Will Riebel; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks of Byron Center for loving and caring for him the past year and a half.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to service.
