Anna Clawson (Dykstra), age 100, went to be with her Lord Monday, March 13, 2023. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Clawson; parents Neil and Minnie Dykstra; siblings Jeanette Vos, James Dykstra, Louis Dykstra and NeII Dempsey. She will be remembered by her brother, John Dykstra; children Sharon Clawson, Kathy (Larry) Looyenga, and Mark (Elaine) Clawson; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Byron Center when she was six years old and grew up there attending Byron Center Christian School. She had a couple of waitressing jobs before her employment at Dexter Lock in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she met her husband, Rex Clawson. They were married July 14, 1945 and lived in Grand Rapids for seven years where they had their daughter Sharon. They then moved to Wyoming, Michigan adding daughter, Kathy and son, Mark. There they raised their children and lived until moving into an apartment in Sunset Manor Village. They initially attended First Protestant Reformed Church and when they moved to Wyoming, they transferred to Southwest Protestant Reformed Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school in her later years. She was married to Rex until his death four and a half years ago.
Visitation with friends and relatives will take place from 10-11 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2023 at Southwest Protestant Reformed Church, 4875 lvanrest Ave. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A Celebration of Anna’s Life will commence immediately following at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2023 at Southwest Protestant Reformed Church. In honor of Anna and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Interment will be at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Township.
