Sunrise Sept. 6, 1960 - Sunset Dec. 14, 2011 Rodney Wayne Johnson was born the youngest of 3 sons to the union of Joseph Johnson and Shirley Johnson (Isaiah) in St. Joseph, MO. He graduated from Bowen High in Chicago IL. Rodney served 8 years as a US Navy Seabee.
He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit, bringing joy and laughter to all who knew him Rodney loved sports, was a star basketball and football player in high school. His favorite hobbies were fishing, playing horseshoes and entertaining friends by grilling and barbequing. Rodney worked at the LPF Performance Coatings Co. until his illness prevented it.
His father preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his beloved companion of 16 years, Robbie Sandberg of the home in Belton, MO, his mother, Shirley Isaiah (Gilbert); two brothers, Joseph and Jeffery “Scott” Johnson; two step daughters, Talisha Kohlman and Carissa Sandberg of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Tehia Rice of Killeen, TX; two sons, Rodney Johnson II, USAF in Germany and Rueben Johnson, US Army, Ft. Sill, OK; step mother, Myrna Johnson and step brother, Al Coleman of St. Joseph, MO; 3 grandchildren and a host of other relatives & friends.
Visitation 10:30-11 am, service 11:00 am at Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmes Rd. KC, MO. Contributions suggested to Saint Luke’s Hospice or American Cancer Society.
