Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Jack lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication, humor, and a deep love for the people and passions that surrounded him. A proud Marine veteran, Jack served his country honorably during the Vietnam War.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Max Sander, his sister Sandra Kay, and his brother James. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his nephew John Edgerton; nieces Joy Gogan, Lara Sander, and Amy Scarpitta; cousins Donald Miller and Barbara Shaffer; and his dear friend Cheryl Moget. The family would especially like to thank Jack’s friend Dakota for his support and friendship throughout the last years of his life.
Jack earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He worked as a film editor at KCTV5 in Kansas City, Missouri, and 11Alive in Atlanta, Georgia. Jack was known for his warmth and humor and had a knack for storytelling. He had a sharp wit and not a serious bone in his body. Memorable quotes include: “Let’s go get a sandwich first,” and “Let’s just wait and see.”
Family and friends meant everything to Jack. He delighted in spending time with loved ones, whether enjoying a meal out, playing at a casino, or cheering for one of his favorite teams. A Kansas City native at heart, Jack was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, KU basketball, and the Kansas City Royals.
Jack loved line-dancing, boating, and fishing. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Taneycomo, Rockbridge Rainbow Trout Ranch in Rockbridge Missouri where he spent many happy days with nephew John. Jack was especially proud of his homegrown tomatoes, an annual labor of love, and his lifelong passion project: rebuilding his classic 1947 Chevy.
Jack’s love extended to animals, especially dogs, and his bond with Kiki dog was particularly special. His gentle spirit and playful humor will be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 12:30 – 1:30 PM at McGilley-George Funeral Home, Grandview followed by a memorial service at 1:30. (Wear your Chiefs gear as per Jack’s final wishes.) In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to M’Shoogy’s Emergency Animal Rescue or Kansas City Hospice House at 12000 Wornall Rd.
Jack’s legacy lives on in the laughter he brought, the lives he touched, and the memories he created. Tally Ho, Jack!
