William J. VanDerBos, age 87, of Rockford, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora VanDerBos; his sister, Beatrice Van’Hof, and his sons, William Charles and Steven Mark VanDerBos. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley Marie VanDerBos; daughter-in-law, Theresa VanDerBos; daughter, Barbara (Bruce) Groh; and son, Jim (Laura) VanDerBos. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jason VanDerBos, Mollie (Mel) Drake, James (Macey) VanDerBos, David VanDerBos, Alicia Groh, and his great-grandchildren Joseph and Jessica VanDerBos.
Bill was born October 24, 1931 in Manton, MI and grew up in Grand Rapids. He worked as a diesel mechanic until his retirement in 1988 from Blue Arrow Douglas Transport. Bill’s retirement years were very active, spent doing what he loved, which included golfing, bowling, and hunting. He loved sharing his home on the lake with friends and family. Bill and Shirley enjoyed many winters in Florida. Most importantly, Bill loved his family with all his heart. He was a very gentle and kind hearted man to everyone he met, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitations will be Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 5-8 pm, and Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 10-11 am at Reyers North Valley Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11 am (Reyers). 2815 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids.
