Thomas Gordon Stein, age 83 passed away surrounded by family on October 8, 2024. Tom was born at his grandmother’s home in Munger on September 5, 1941 to Lawrence & Marie (Redwantz) Stein. He grew up in Reese where he played football. As a junior and senior, their team had back to back shut out years landing them in the National High School Football Hall of Fame.
On October 6, 1962, Tom married his high school sweetheart, the former Marcellyne “Marnie” Humpert. Together, they raised their three children. A hard worker and provider, Tom spent his career working as a property assessor for the State of Michigan. After he retired, he spent several years working for both Nelson and Tyrone Townships.
Tom believed in giving back to his community. He was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, assisting hands on with building home. Tom also donated blood regularly tallying over 30 gallon given to help others. He donated countless hours to numerous food pantries. Tom also had a quiet faith, and was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish.
When he took time to relax and enjoy life, Tom probably was fishing. Both, he and Marnie loved to fish especially from the Mache-Kino Lodge in Canada. There may have been some banter about who was the better fisherman. Tom also dabbled with woodworking, and for many years made small teddy bear figurines that he would give to family and friends.
