Ruth Ida Rohloff, aged 97 of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Sanctuary Of St. Mary's. Ruth was born in Grand Rapids on June 25, 1914, and was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Katherine Hummel, her husband, Albert in 1994, and brothers Bob, Jim, and Dan Hummel. Survivors are her children, Kay (Bill) Geerling, Roger (Marilyn) Rohloff, Karen (Bob) Coll. 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her brother, Tom (Arlene) Hummel, nieces and nephews. Ruth raised Tom from childhood and considered him her son. In addition to her many church activities, Ruth held the position of Campaign Director for the Tuberculosis Health and Emphysema Society for many years. Ruth was an intelligent, caring, giving, ambitious and loving woman. She was devoted to her family, her church and her friends completely. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people at the Sanctuary Of St. Mary's and from Hospice Of Michigan who so kindly and skillfully cared for her in her final days. Donations in Ruth's memory to these organizations would be greatly appreciated. Mass Of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic, 2275 Diamond Ave. N.E. (meet at church). Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. If you would like to pay your respects to Ruth, please visit the Reyers North Valley Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to the mass at the church Tuesday.
