A lifelong resident of the Grand Rapids area, Karen graduated from Creston High School before settling in her work life. She worked for many years for Remex Corporation before going to work for Spartan Nash. Only retiring when her health started to interfere.
She was creative and took many art courses over the years. She also loved movies and music; she didn’t have a favorite style, she found joy in all genres. Karen was smart and knew a little about everything, making her a force to be reckoned with when playing trivia games.
However, Karen will tell you her great passion was her family and closest friends. Her nieces and nephews were her world. She cultivated loving relationships with all of them, and stayed up to date on everyone’s activities. She also has close knit circle of friends that found each other in second grade and have stayed best friends since. Her loving heart and spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Karen is survived by her siblings: Patricia (Bob) Leale, Barbara (Randy) Hiemstra, David (Rachelle) Roest, Colleen Derscha, Bill (Karen) Roest, and Janet (Terry Johnson) Nielsen; 20 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece and her best girlfriends Judy, Cat and Debbie as well many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents.
