D. Joseph Jakubowski, 85, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, June 14, 2016. He was born in Grand Rapids, on September 30, 1930 to the late Frank and Nellie Jakubowski. Joseph was a long time and active member of St. Alphonsus Parish. Along with his parents Joseph is preceded in death by his brothers Frank, Ray, Gene, Jack, Ken "Bum", James, Tom, Sister Virginia, and his close and special friend Ed Gerke. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia, their children Bill Jakubowski, Charles Jakubowski, John (Mary) Jakubowski, Maribeth (Mark) Zeinstra, grandchildren Heather (Gabe) Skelonc, Lindsay Jakubowski, Eric Zeinstra, Nicole Zeinstra, Corey Zeinstra and great-grandsons Jonathon Skelonc and CJ Scherder. He will also be deeply missed by his sister Norma Boyle, sisters-in-law Barb, Mary Lou, Joyce, Donnah, many nieces and nephews, and dear lifelong friends Chuck (Mag) Frodl, John (Norma) Topolewski, Ralph (Sue) Cross, Tom VanderMolen, and Orlando Suarez. Joseph was a veteran of Korean Conflict serving as part of the Signal Corp with the United States Army. He was a lifelong carpenter, and worked in the family business of Jakubowski Builders, before dedicating over 20 years to Grand Valley Aluminum. Joseph was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and provider. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. A viewing will be held at Reyers North Valley Chapel on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 4-8pm, with the rosary being prayed at 7:30pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Parish (224 Carrier St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505) on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11am, with a time of visitation from 10 to 11am prior to the mass. Internment at Resurrection Cemetery.
