Joan was born in Chicago, IL moving to Lake Villa, IL after her marriage. Here she raised her four children, later moving to Waukagen, IL where she worked for the Lake County Clerk. Upon her marriage to Robert Cassidy, Joan lived in Vernon Hills, IL retiring in Pensacola, FL. Most recently, Joan lived at the Village of Heather Hills in Grand Rapids, MI where she moved to be closer to family.
Joan worked most of her adult life in civil service and was especially proud of her 30+ years as a federal employee, and her many years as the administrative assistant to the commander of Fort Sheridan, IL. Joan loved singing, drawing, writing poetry, finishing crossword puzzles, and a good margarita. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Church in Pensacola, FL and attended St. Robert of Newminster in Ada.
Surviving are her children, Lauchlan Jones, Robert (Glenda) Anderson, Holly (Bruce) Hanson, and Granville Anderson: stepchildren, Patrick Cassidy, Suzanne Puckett, Michael Cassidy, Margaret Brown, and Elizabeth Cassidy-Kane; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; special friend Raymond Engel and her lifelong friend of 85 years, Marilyn McDonald.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Sarah (Cromar) McLauchlan; stepmother and the only mother she knew, Esther (Webster) McLauchlan; sisters Elspeth Faulkner, Margaret Otteman, Mary Cassin, and Sarah Lindsey.
A service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Robert of Newminster, 6744 Ada Dr. SE, Ada. Friends and relatives may greet the family one hour before the service begins. You may join the service virtually at
