James Arthur Sturgis, age 55 of Grand Rapids, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 4, 2021. Jim was born in Grand Rapids on October 17, 1966 to Arthur and Mollie (Brewer) Sturgis.
Always working in the skilled trades, Jim began his career working for Plasan Carbon Composites before taking his current position as a chemical mixer for Haviland Products Company.
When Jim was not working, he was frequently found tinkering on cars. He also enjoyed bowling and playing football. An avid sports fan, Jim was known for his love of University of Michigan football, but enjoyed watching the Maize and Blue in any sport. He also enjoyed downloading movies and TV series for binge watching with Sheryal.
He was a kind and honest man who would give the shirt off his back to help others. He was never short on affection for his beloved canine, Zabo. Jim was especially looking forward to taking his wife Sheryal on a much needed and long awaited honeymoon. However when we make plans, God always seems to have better plans for us. Most importantly Jim will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving son and caring step-dad.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sheryal; his mother Mollie Sturgis; his stepchildren: Amanda & Aaron Garrison; his sister Shelly and brother Tom; his nieces Ashley and Holly; his nephew Gavin (Makenzie); his grandchildren: Anaya and Paris; a special cousin and friend Wayne Lawrence; his cousin Carol; his mother-in-law Hattie Garrison as well as many other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.
A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday December 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel.
